That the future remains in the hands of young people is a common saying. It is even better when a single recognition supports it.
We are proud to congratulate our Marta Marija Bilić on the best graduate thesis in water engineering. The awards ceremony was part of the Round Table “Waters - a look into the future.” It was held as a Croatian contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe. Also, then marked the 145th year of organized water management in the Republic of Croatia and the Day of Croatian Waters.
The awards were presented on this occasion by Mr. sc. Zoran Đuroković, General Manager of Hrvatske vode.
The title of Marta’s work is: “Assessment of the danger of complex floods in the centre of the city of Rijeka due to the combined action of the sea and rivers. “
The aim was to assess the danger of complex floods in the centre of the city of Rijeka due to the combined action of the sea and the river by making maps of the danger of complex floods. Maps are made for three flood scenarios (high, medium, and low probability of occurrence) and one extreme event. Marta created a terrain model in the GIS environment to produce maps. At the same time, hydraulic calculations are in the HEC-RAS program. The calculation results in flood simulations are for all flood scenarios. In the end, from them, I made maps of the dangers of complex floods- said Marta.
Marta came to Institut IGH, d.d. as a student last year, the regional centre in Rijeka. After a successful collaboration, at the beginning of this year, she became a full-time employee.
We congratulate Marta once again and wish her much success on her business journey.
