Airports
Air traffic has grown immensely in recent years, both in the passenger and freight transport segments. Air transport tremendously impacts business, political, economic and tourism trends globally. Consequently, airports have proven to be a key element in the financial success of the local community and a lever for investment, tourism and trade development. The European aviation sector is one of the most successful parts of the European economy and is the leading industry in the world. Every year, 900 million air passengers travel to and from the European Union, making up a third of the world market.
In recent years, the INSTITUT IGH, JSC has played a key role in our region's most significant airport construction project. Design and coordination of design for Franjo Tuđman Airport in Zagreb began in 2013 and was completed in 2017 when it was opened to traffic. The applied solution was selected as the best concept from urban planning, space quality, flexibility, functionality, energy efficiency, and construction. With an experienced and responsible approach, the multidisciplinary team of INSTITUT IGH, JSC has effectively managed its clients' goals in terms of quality and dynamics by effectively managing its tasks and external risks.
Our experts were also in charge of the main project of expanding the parking lot at Split Airport, as well as the development of the conceptual design, development plan, environmental impact study and preliminary design for the Mali Lošinj Airport. For the same project, we were in charge of obtaining a location permit for a new passenger building and the reconstruction and extension of the runway and manoeuvring areas.
Our expert team was also entrusted with investigative works to determine the carrying capacity and condition of the operational areas of Split Airport (runways and stands). For the clients, we performed geotechnical exploratory drilling and testing of foundation soil parameters; exploration works and testing of geophysics and seismics; and field and laboratory testing of the installed lower load-bearing pavement structure and concrete and asphalt layers. Our experts were also in charge of analyzing and interpreting the results, assessing the condition of the pavement structures, and doing the final study with the numerical calculation of load-bearing capacity (PCN) of all existing pavement structure structures for Split Airport.
The INSTITUT IGH, JSC, is also engaged in developing Master Plan for Pula Airport Development for the period 2014-2039, for a part of the contract related to ecological aspects (noise, air pollution, groundwater pollution) and analysis of obstacle limitation surfaces (existing, planned development for surrounding areas), which is mandatory content of a Master Plan.
